How long does a tanning session take?
We NEVER want our clients to feel rushed. We want to make sure our clients are completely satisfied with our process and more importantly their tan. A full body session can take 20 to 30 minutes, less for partial tans. However, depending on the location, we schedule appointments 30 to 40 minutes apart. This allows our technicians ample time to concentrate on giving each client the perfect tan everyone will be talking about.
How does it work?
The main ingredient in our sunless tanning product is known as dihydroxyacetone (DHA). DHA is not a dye, stain or paint. However, when applied to the skin, DHA reacts with the amino acids on the epidermis, the outermost layer of the skin, to increase production of a pigment called melanin. It is this pigment which gives skin its tan or brown color and helps protect the deeper layers of the skin from the harmful effects of the sun.
Is it safe?
Yes. The main ingredient in our sunless tanning product is known as dihydroxyacetone (DHA). DHA is a simple non-toxic sugar often derived from plant sources, such as sugar beets and sugar cane.
How long should my tan last?
With absolutely no sun exposure at all, the tans can last between 5-10 days. The average result is 7 to 10 days of color. The way the tan fades is dependent on the way each person naturally exfoliates his or her skin. Factors such as skin type, activities, and skin maintenance can cause your results to vary.
Bottom line: Because the tan is created on the outermost layer of the skin, anything that promotes exfoliation will decrease the duration of the tan. Conversely, anything that decreases exfoliation (moisturizing, patting the skin after showering/bathing, etc) will increase the duration of the tan.
What to do before your tanning appointment:
- Exfoliate your skin the night before. By removing dead skin in this way, you help extend the duration of your tan.
- Shave or wax no less than eight hours before your appointment.
- Do not wear makeup or moisturizer to your appointment. They are barriers to the airbrushing process.
- Wear dark, loose-fitting clothing and undergarments to your appointment, because the tanning bronzer may initially rub off on clothing. It washes out of most fabrics except nylons and silks.
How to maintain your tan:
- Wait at least 8-12 hours after your tanning before you shower or bathe.
- Apply moisturizer in the morning and evening after your post-tan shower. Avoid moisturizes with AHA because they promote exfoliation.
- Avoid long hot showers and baths. Do not excessively scrub your skin. Pat dry after bathing or showering.
- Chlorine in swimming pools and hot tubs can remove or shorten the longevity of your tan.
- Take care when exercising because friction and excess sweat may cause your tan to fade prematurely or unevenly.
- Your tan will start to fade as your skin normally exfoliates. Once your tan has completely faded, you can start the preparation and treatment all over again.
